People ask me all the time where the name Sovereign Warrior came from.
Many assume it’s Native American.
Others think it’s connected to the military.
Some think it’s because we raise bison in Montana.
The truth is, it started long before jerky ever existed.
Before food.
Before business plans.
Before any of this became what it is today.
It began during a season of my life when I found myself questioning almost everything.
Who was I, really?
What actually mattered?
Why did so many of us seem disconnected from ourselves, constantly looking outside for permission, validation, or direction?
For years, I lived the way many people do. Trying to meet expectations. Trying to make the “right” decisions. Trying to fit into systems and ideas that never completely felt like my own.
Somewhere along the way, I realized how quietly we can surrender our own inner authority.
We let fear make our decisions.
We let other people define our worth.
We let culture, trends, institutions, and expectations become louder than our own intuition.
That’s when the word sovereign became deeply meaningful to me.
Not in a political sense.
In a personal one.
To me, sovereignty means taking responsibility for your own life.
Your choices.
Your direction.
Your healing.
Your growth.
No one else can build confidence, purpose, or clarity for us.
Those are things we cultivate through the choices we make every day.
But I also realized something else.
Living that way isn’t easy.
Which is where the word warrior came from.
Not aggression.
Not dominance.
Not pretending to have everything figured out.
To me, being a warrior means having the courage to face life honestly.
To confront your fears instead of avoiding them.
To keep learning instead of believing you’ve arrived.
To choose integrity over convenience.
To continue becoming instead of settling into comfort.
Real courage is often much quieter than we imagine.
Sometimes it looks like starting the business you’re terrified to start.
Speaking honestly.
Walking away from what no longer aligns.
Believing in yourself before there’s evidence.
Refusing to numb yourself.
Choosing growth over comfort.
Over time, I realized something that has become the foundation of everything we do at Sovereign Warrior.
Power isn’t found in controlling others.
It’s found in taking responsibility for your own choices.
And the right choice isn’t always the easiest one.
To me, a Sovereign Warrior is someone who has the courage to take responsibility for their choices, especially when choosing what is right isn’t the easiest path.
⸻
At first, Sovereign Warrior wasn’t a food company at all.
It began as a small apparel brand because I wanted to build something around those ideas.
But food had always been woven into my life.
As a kid, I started cooking because whoever made dinner didn’t have to wash the dishes.
Somehow that little loophole turned into something I genuinely loved.
Cooking never felt like work.
I loved creating meals from scratch.
I loved gathering people around the table.
I loved feeding the people I cared about.
Food became one of the ways I expressed love, creativity, and care.
Years later, something started bothering me.
Many of the natural food brands I had trusted began changing.
Ingredients became cheaper.
Products became more processed.
Craftsmanship slowly gave way to efficiency.
Everything seemed optimized for scale, shelf life, and margins instead of nourishment.
But what bothered me most wasn’t simply the ingredients.
It was the loss of intention.
The loss of craftsmanship.
The loss of responsibility.
Once I saw it, I couldn’t unsee it.
⸻
That’s when Sovereign Warrior evolved into food.
Not because we wanted to create another snack company.
But because we wanted to build a company that reflected the values we were trying to live by ourselves.
We realized those values couldn’t simply be words.
They had to show up in our choices.
In the ranchers we partner with.
In the ingredients we source.
In the way animals are raised.
In the way the land is cared for.
In the way we formulate our products.
In the way we run our business.
Again and again, we found ourselves making the harder choice.
The slower choice.
The more expensive choice.
Because over time we came to believe something simple.
Choosing what is right isn’t always the easiest path.
But it’s almost always the one worth taking.
To me, that’s what Power Through Choice really means.
⸻
Food is one of the most meaningful ways we participate in the world every single day.
Every choice is an opportunity to shape the future we want to create. Food is simply one of the most powerful places we practice that every single day.
What we buy supports systems.
What we eat literally becomes part of us.
The way food is produced shapes the health of our soil, our animals, our communities, and ultimately ourselves.
I think many people are craving something more real again.
Not perfection.
But honesty.
Craftsmanship.
Transparency.
Connection.
Food that reflects the values behind it.
I don’t believe sovereignty means rejecting the world or pretending to have all the answers.
I believe it means becoming conscious enough to stop living on autopilot.
To ask better questions.
To take responsibility for your choices.
And to remember that every choice—no matter how small—is helping shape the future we’re creating.
Because in the end, I don’t believe change happens all at once.
I believe it happens every time someone chooses integrity over convenience.
Craftsmanship over shortcuts.
Stewardship over short-term gain.
Purpose over impulse.
One choice at a time.
Your choices are the revolution.
