Frequently Asked Questions
Jerky faqs
Is your jerky gluten free?
Yes! All of our whole muscle bison jerky and bison bites are naturally gluten free. We never use wheat or gluten-containing ingredients, so you can enjoy a clean, protein-rich snack without compromise.
Is your bison 100% grass-fed and grass-finished?
Yes. We source 100% grass-fed and grass-finished bison that are never fed grain. Bison raised exclusively on grass produce naturally lean, nutrient-dense meat with exceptional flavor and are an excellent source of protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12.
Why choose grass-fed bison?
We believe exceptional food starts with exceptional ingredients. Grass-fed bison are naturally lean, rich in high-quality protein, and raised the way nature intended. Choosing grass-fed bison also supports responsible ranching practices that prioritize healthy animals and healthy grasslands. Combined with our handcrafted approach and simple ingredients, it’s why we believe grass-fed bison makes an exceptional snack
Are your bison vaccinated or treated with antibiotics or hormones?
No. Our bison are never vaccinated or treated with antibiotics or added hormones. They are raised the way nature intended with respect for the animals and the land. We believe healthy animals and responsible stewardship produce exceptional meat.
Where does your bison come from?
We proudly source our bison from two trusted American ranches that share our commitment to quality, animal welfare, and responsible land stewardship.
Our whole muscle jerky is made with bison from Wild Idea Buffalo, where the animals are 100% prairie grazed and grass-finished, raised using regenerative ranching practices, and humanely field harvested to minimize stress.
Our bison bites are made with bison from Creekside Ranch in Montana, where the animals are always 100% grass-fed and grass-finished.
We believe knowing where your food comes from matters, which is why we’re proud to tell the story behind every bag we make.
What is Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™)?
Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) is one of the highest standards in agriculture. Built upon the USDA Organic standard, ROC™ goes beyond organic by promoting healthy soil, animal welfare, and fair treatment of farm workers through regenerative farming practices.
We’re proud to offer the first Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) bison jerky. Our Aegean recipe begins with ROC™ bison and is crafted with an exceptional blend of ROC™ Kalamata olives, ROC™ extra virgin olive oil, thyme, oregano, fresh garlic, parsley, and lemon. It’s also our only jerky made without soy or raw honey, allowing the bright, Mediterranean flavors to shine.
Aegean represents our belief that exceptional food begins with exceptional ingredients and thoughtful stewardship of both the animals and the land.
What makes bison jerky different from beef jerky?
Bison is naturally leaner than beef while delivering exceptional flavor and high-quality protein. Our jerky is handcrafted using whole muscle cuts, real ingredients, and no artificial preservatives, creating a clean snack with bold flavor and simple ingredients.
What’s the difference between your Bison Jerky and Bison Bites?
Our Bison Jerky is made from premium whole cuts of bison that are marinated, sliced, and dried to highlight the natural texture of the meat. It offers the classic jerky experience with a tender chew and bold, handcrafted flavor.
Our Bison Bites are made from ground bison that is seasoned, pressed into strips, slowly dried, and then cut into bite-sized pieces. They have a softer texture than traditional jerky and are an easy, convenient snack for hiking, road trips, lunch boxes, or post-workout fuel.
Whether you choose our Jerky or Bites, you’ll enjoy 100% grass-fed and grass-finished bison, simple ingredients, and the same commitment to handcrafted quality in every bag.
Why does your jerky cost more than most jerky?
We believe exceptional food starts with exceptional ingredients. Our jerky begins with 100% grass-fed and grass-finished bison, one of the leanest and most premium red meats available. We season every batch with fresh herbs, organic fruit juices, organic gluten-free tamari, raw honey, and organic spices instead of artificial flavors or shortcuts.
Every bag is handcrafted in small batches using whole muscle cuts and never contains fillers, MSG, or artificial preservatives. It costs more to make jerky this way, but we believe quality, craftsmanship, and ingredients are always worth it.
Does your jerky contain preservatives?
No. We never use artificial preservatives, nitrates, nitrites, MSG, or artificial flavors. Instead, we rely on traditional methods, careful drying, and rigorous food safety practices to create a shelf-stable product.
What preserves your jerky if it has no preservatives?
We use a combination of traditional methods to ensure our jerky stays fresh and safe. Honey, sea salt, and vinegar help prepare the meat before it is carefully dried to a water activity level that prevents bacterial growth. Because we don’t use artificial preservatives, we recommend refrigerating your jerky after opening if you don’t plan to enjoy it the same day.
What is the shelf life of your jerky?
Our whole muscle bison jerky and bison bites have a 9-month shelf life from the date of manufacture when stored unopened in a cool, dry place.
Does your jerky need to be refrigerated?
No. Our jerky is shelf stable until opened. Once opened, we recommend refrigerating it if you don’t plan to enjoy it the same day. Because we don’t use artificial preservatives, refrigeration helps maintain freshness after opening.
Bison tallow faqs
What is bison tallow?
Bison tallow is a traditional, nutrient-rich fat that has been carefully rendered and purified for skincare. Naturally rich in skin-compatible fatty acids, it has been used for generations to help nourish, protect, and support the skin’s natural barrier.
Is your tallow dry rendered?
Yes. We dry render all of our bison tallow using a traditional low-and-slow process without adding water. We believe dry rendering is the gold standard because it preserves the natural character of the tallow while minimizing unnecessary processing.
Throughout the rendering process, we carefully control the temperature and aim to keep it at or below 175°F. It’s a slower, more hands-on approach, but we believe exceptional skincare begins with exceptional ingredients.
Why is bison tallow good for your skin?
Bison tallow contains fatty acids that closely resemble the skin’s natural oils, allowing it to absorb beautifully while helping support hydration and the skin barrier. We combine our bison tallow with carefully selected botanical oils to create a balm that deeply nourishes without unnecessary fillers.
Does tallow clog pores?
Tallow is well tolerated by many skin types because its fatty acid profile is similar to the skin’s own natural oils. While every person’s skin is unique, many people find that high-quality tallow absorbs well without leaving a heavy or greasy feeling.
How do I use your tallow balm?
Apply a small amount to clean, slightly damp skin as the final step in your skincare routine. A little goes a long way. Our balm can be used morning or evening to help nourish and protect your skin.
